Replit's New Effort-Based Pricing for Agent Service Explained

Replit has moved from a fixed checkpoint pricing model to a dynamic, effort-based pricing structure on 1st July 2025. Under the previous system, every checkpoint (a batch of work handled by the Agent) had a flat cost of $0.25. This meant that both simple and complex tasks cost the same.

In the new model, the cost of each checkpoint is determined by how much compute or effort is required to complete a task. Simpler tasks will cost less than $0.25, while more complex tasks (e.g., running large codebases or working with extended contexts) may cost more, potentially several dollars.

Instead of offering a fixed number of checkpoints, free users now receive $3 worth of checkpoint credits.

Once your credits are exhausted, you will need to pay for additional usage to continue using the Agent services. To help prevent unexpected charges, Replit offers the option to set a spending limit. This allows you to monitor and control your usage, ensuring that you don't exceed your desired budget.

Note: Even if the Agent only answers a question or helps with planning without making any code changes (example, in “plan mode”), there’s still a cost for that work. You’ll usually only see a checkpoint when the Agent actually changes your code, but background work like planning or explanations is still billable.

All Four of Replit’s Plans Explained

Starter Plan: This is the free option, designed for individuals just starting out. It comes with $3 worth of checkpoint credits and offers limited features such as 1 vCPU, 2 GB of memory, and 1 GB of outbound data transfer. Users also get access to basic code generation, debugging, and code completion. It allows for up to 10 public apps and only 1 collaborator. There’s also a limit of 1200 development minutes. The plan includes 2 GB of storage per app and 10 GB of outbound data transfer for deployments.

Core Plan: The Core plan costs $10/month and offers an upgrade from the Starter plan with more resources. It comes with 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of memory, and 100 GB of outbound data transfer. You can have unlimited public apps and 3 collaborators, and there are no limitations on development time. This plan also includes 50 GB of storage per app, along with PostgreSQL storage options and advanced code generation and debugging features.

Teams Plan: The Teams plan, priced at $25/month, is intended for small teams and offers even more resources. Users get 8 vCPUs, 16 GB of memory, and 1,000 GB of outbound data transfer. Public apps are unlimited, and all team members have access to unlimited development time. The plan includes up to 256 GB of storage per app and allows for full collaboration with team members. There are additional features like PostgreSQL compute hours and advanced app storage capabilities.

Enterprise Plan: The Enterprise plan is a custom plan tailored for large organizations, with pricing based on specific needs. It supports up to 64 vCPUs and 128 GB of memory, offering the most robust resources. It also provides a higher storage capacity with 256 GB per app and includes custom outbound data transfer and other advanced features. Teams can utilize enterprise-level solutions such as advanced app storage, reserved VM deployments, and custom storage configurations.

Answering Some Frequently Asked Questions About Replit’s Pricing

1) How much does Replit cost?

Replit's pricing starts at $0 per month for the Starter plan, which is ideal for beginners and hobbyists. For more advanced features, the Core plan is available at $20 per month when billed annually, or $25 per month on a monthly basis. The Teams plan is priced at $35 per user per month when billed annually, or $40 per user per month on a monthly basis. For large organizations with specific needs, the Enterprise plan offers custom pricing.

Opting for annual billing can lead to cost savings. For instance, the Core plan is $20 per month when billed annually, compared to $25 per month when billed monthly, resulting in a savings of $60 over the course of a year. Similarly, the Teams plan is $35 per user per month with annual billing, versus $40 per user per month with monthly billing, offering savings for organizations committing to a year-long subscription.

Each plan includes a set amount of monthly credits for usage, with additional charges applying if these credits are exceeded. This structure allows users to scale their usage according to their needs while managing costs effectively.

2) Is Replit free for students?

Replit had a plan called “teams for education” earlier, which was a free browser-based IDE service that provided an online coding environment for teachers and students to use for teaching and learning. But it got discontinued on 1st August 2024.

Now, as of 2025, Replit does not offer a special free plan for students, but the platform does have a universal free plan called “starter”, which gives users $3 worth of free credits and limited access to agentic features.

3) Is Replit worth buying?

Here is our honest answer on this matter: Replit’s Effort-Based Pricing model charges users based on the computational resources consumed by each task. While this approach rewards efficient coding, it can lead to unexpected expenses. For instance, some users have reported charges of up to $350 in a single day due to complex operations or extended sessions. Others have experienced a significant increase in per-minute costs, from $0.11 to $0.68, after the pricing model change.

Moreover, the AI Agent, despite its advanced capabilities, has shown limitations. There have been instances where the AI ignored explicit instructions, leading to unintended code changes and data loss. In one notable case, the AI deleted a live production database and then falsely claimed it couldn't be restored.

However, for solo developers, startups, or non-technical users aiming to rapidly prototype applications, Replit's all-in-one platform can be invaluable. It eliminates the need for extensive setup, offering an integrated environment for coding, deployment, and hosting. The inclusion of AI tools like Claude Sonnet 4 and GPT-4o further enhances its appeal.
