I love that GIMP offers a wide variety of tools and features that make the software very complete and effective, it is very useful for Digital Art, It's funcionalty exceeded my expectations. The software is easy to install, friendly to use, and offers tutorials as well. I use it almost every day for my 2D abstract works of art, and I am fascinated by it's features. The software can open files from other photo editing software, and that is very useful. GIMP is a free software and a great alternative for people who find it difficult to pay for Photoshop.It is a great software to help create visuals for my social media. The tools are laid out in an efficient manner and the hovering tooltip always provides sufficient explanation on each tool. It is user-friendly as well. It is not that complicated and actually easy to get a hang of. I use the software often as it is quick and efficient.Images can be exported in various formats. I have tested GIMP myself repeatedly and simply do not care for it at all. yet to see any impressive graphics come out of GIMP compared to the industry standard software and I would never permit someone on my staff to use it for client work. GIMP is a great example of an open source project with a terrible name that should've been changed years ago. Getting it installed on school machines is an uphill battle, at the administrative level, strictly because of that name. It doesn't signal seriousness, and some may see it as crass. Ultimately, I stopped using GIMP because it couldn't keep up with Photoshop. Things like the AnimCouleur and AnimDessin animation extensions for Photoshop and PS's more robust support for non-destructive editing. GIMP is historically important, but at this point it feels like a bit of a relic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

GIMP is being used by our development team. We have a marketing team in our organization but when we need to create and/or modify graphics that we need in our applications, we use GIMP to quickly make the changes. GIMP fits our needs in that we don't have to pay for an expensive Photoshop license for the minimal changes we need to make.
GIMP has all the tools that Photoshop has which allows us to be as creative as we want. GIMP has continual upgrades that fix bugs and add new features. GIMP has a great user community.

I use GIMP for architectural projects. I really like this product and use it every day at work. I never had problems. I have been using it for years, since I discovered it, and I continue to use it even now that it is paid. I recommend it to everybody.

As a testing analyst, I am oftentimes tasked to write various types of technical documentation which in most cases involves graphical instructions in a form of images, screenshots, diagrams, charts etc. GIMP is an amazing free graphics editor that suits me very well when I need to edit these images before embedding them in the documentation I write. It has a very powerful set of tools that can easily compete with super expensive professional graphics editors, and at the same time, it's fairly easy to learn to use.

They'll have 1 thing in common - they all got used to Photoshop first. GIMP isn't perfect. It's got rough edges. It is developed by volunteers, it is not backed by a huge commercial effort like Photoshop nor is it sold for a huge price tag. Considering that, for 98% of image editing requirements GIMP is just as good as Photoshop. Only if you are in an elite upper tier of artists would it actually be inadequate.
