It is very lightweight. You can run it on a Mac or PC with low specs. It is fast compared to other software. It is one of the best tools for surfacing forms and creating parametric patterns. It is very versatile - you can use it for industrial design, transportation design, architecture, etc. It can import and export to different formats like STEP and OBJ, which is very helpful. It is a very flexible tool, with an easy interface to undertand and navigate. I use it at my work for initial ideation of new products and have used it since I was in school. The design modeling community is littered with more powerful and more functional software. If there is a need for very basic design and sketching in the design process, this might be a useful tool, but otherwise use another product. Rhino is used primarily for early-stage concept design studies and for 3D modeling that involves complex geometry or parametric design. Rhino is first and foremost a 3D modeling tool, secondly, a great parametric design tool when using the Grasshopper plugin, and third a great file converter due to its many supported formats.

It has an indispensable role in the evaluation of prototypes with 3D printing, reducing time and cost.
