After having tested several other leading embedded BI platforms we were convinced that Exago satisfies many of our requirements. Some of my favorite items are: - Native support for multitenancy via a wide variety of patterns. - Flexible user, roles, and permissions management, both via UI and API. - Excellent exporting capabilities into Excel (better than all the platforms we have tested). - User interface is comfortable and modern, and while not sporting super sexy visualizations, they are always improving. - Easily embeddable as an iframe or a direct page, with a lot of flexibility on styling and theming. - Great scheduling capabilities, by far surpassing the SSRS user experience. - Convenient and straightforward pricing methodology, with a predictive cost that does not depend upon variables such as users, customers, servers, etc. - Multiple releases throughout the year, so bugs usually don't stay in the system too long after being discovered. - Great webinars and "advanced users" labs every few weeks, covering non-trivial use cases. - Exago does not impose its storage or persistence mechanisms upon the hosting platform. The implementer gets to decide how everything is stored, if you'd like to scale or change beyond the "stock" options. This is both an advantage and a hindrance, depending on far you'd like to take the system. - And last but certainly not least, there is a phenomenal and passionate team standing behind the product. I really cannot stress how important this is for this kind of product. You will be amazed at how quickly they can adapt their "language" to your line of business and usually help you within a couple of hours do things that might take you a lot longer. The post-sale experience is as good as the pre-sale and the handoff throughout the sale process is very smooth. It is exceptionally uncommon in this industry and I hope that others take notice. - Do not be fooled by the simplicity of what you see. It is not going to be a walk in the park, especially if your SaaS has many hundreds of different tables, types of users, and lots of conflicting use-cases. You absolutely need to have a strong, business oriented and a fairly technical person (or team) that will spearhead this implementation. Exago's tremendous flexibility is also a source of its complexities. You need to get into the weeds in order to determine what is best for your environment, and it is often not trivial. Be prepared for some learning curve, but if you dedicate an honest effort, you will see that it is very doable to have excellent results in relatively short time. - Although the documentation is very good, you need to have a clear plan on how to "map" your environment to the Exago landscape and have a clear set of links in the documentation with which you need to become intimately familiar. We were largely unsuccessful in our deployment until we did just that. However, once we invested a little bit of brainpower into this process, we had started gaining tremendous momentum and now the project is a major success. - The cross tabs (pivot) reports are lacking some computational features, but there are always improvements in this area and they are always welcome. Our basic issue was: how do we reconcile the fact that we have hundreds of legacy operational reports that our users rely on on a daily basis (many of them delivered via email on a scheduled basis), with the desire of these same users to modernize the BI experience and have flashy dashboards and ability to interact with their data in a self-service model. Out of the many solutions we have tested, Exago checked the most amount of boxes and was the ideal balance between features, functionality, and user experience. For an organization that comes from an SSRS or similar environment, this is a great package, because it does not try to shy away from "legacy" advanced reporting, which is still the firepower behind many analytics requirements in the boardroom, while at same time provide modern solutions for interactive data visualization and exploration. Hi Isaac, Thanks very much for your very thorough review which I believe anyone researching Exago BI will find useful. Re your comment on Crosstabs I'm going to make sure we follow up as our next release will have much greater capabilities here. Mark

    - We have a great working relationship with Exago. They listen to our needs and help us to solve issues. Response time via their online support system is great. And when we've run into issues, they devote the time or resources needed to resolve them. - They release new features several times a year - the product is always changing and becoming more feature-rich. - Exago allows us to provide canned reports to address our customers' common reporting needs AND give them the power to create their own reports. - We decide and control when we will take a new release of the Exago software. - We were able to customize the display so that customers using the German and Spanish versions of our software see it in their native language rather than English. Our data set is very large so response time in opening and running reports is a little slower than we'd like. Exago informed us that an upcoming release will contain performance enhancements that should address these issues. - Test it against your data, including some large data scenarios. - Take the time to create the reports or dashboards your customers need most. This will help ensure that the product can support those requirements. We have 8000 customers who range from small IT service providers to large MSP's with hundreds of employees. With Exago embedded into our software, customers can create, run, and schedule the reports they need to manage their business and maximize revenue. Hi Harriet, Thank you for sharing your experiences with the G2Crowd community. As you suggest we are dedicating a significant amount of resources on addressing the needs of clients such as yourself with large and continually growing data sets. Mark

Customizable features and table building Steep learning curve for some end users. This is a very powerful tool that you can take out of the box. One of the big strengths is how much you can build on top of Exago - so do you want to devote the resources to build exactly what you want on top of it? What do your end users want to see in their reports? Exago's clear strength is the "Advanced Report", which enables users to create detailed tables and reports on sophisticated data sets. They've also recently given their dashboards and visualizations a big overhaul, and so far those seem greatly improved. Will you need to make updates to your configuration after implementation? I'm the dedicated administrator for our implementation of Exago, and we're constantly adding new data fields, categories, adjusting settings, etc. Will you want to iterate on your installation or get it set up and move on? Our users have large, complex, and interrelated data sets and desire sophisticated reports on this data. Exago enables us to manage and configure the data sets, and provides a robust report-building tool for the end users to develop the insights they need. As an administrator, documentation is generally excellent for different features and settings, and I am quickly able to use their support center to find articles related to just about any change I am making. Their support team is highly competent and I've always had positive experiences with them. We tend to submit complex cases and get quick resolutions with seamless escalations to managers when more experience is needed.

From my perspective as a software developer who integrated Exago's software into our own, they provide many flexible features that allow you to customize the product depending on your own needs. For example, Exago provides several interfaces that allow us to manage our customer created data, where we store the reports and schedules created by our customers in our own database tables. They also provide other extensibility features, like server events that allow you to add custom code for specific events during a report execution. We have used the api to "publish" reports for use in other parts of our application, as well as replace legacy asp reports in our application with reports created in Exago. This has helped us tremendously in standardizing reports across our application in terms of the terminology used as well as the data that is returned. Now when our customers try to compare results from various reports across our application, there is much more consistency. Our data model is very large and we would like to see some future improvements on how the designer handles all of the field lists, so that the designer could be more responsive. Try to educate yourself on all of the extensibility features that are available as they add a lot of value in allowing you to customize your solution. We integrated Exago software as an ad hoc reporting engine for our customers. It allowed us to expose our data model to our customers and provide for them a way to create their own reports. Some of the features that we benefited from, which we did not have in our legacy solution were the ability to create custom formulas on a report and also the ability to schedule a report. Hi Jen, Thanks very much for your review and feedback re your data model. Perhaps something we can talk more about at next months client advisory board meeting with you if not sooner. Mark

I like how Exago is a flexible and easy to learn tool, especially for users with experience in Excel. The tool has also made strides in the last 2 years with the introduction of interactive HTML, dashboards and composite reports. We also like the extensibility of the tool and the option of adding custom action events and functions. I still would like to be able to run multiple queries and combine them in one report. Also, the performance should be tuned for large loads of data, and the dashboards should be a little more responsive to user actions. The most important advise is to set up the semantic layer correctly and with the correct data objects and relationships. This is the most important step to ensure the tool would work according to your needs. We use Exago reporting as our primary reporting tool. Reports are created and tailored based on client needs. Given the large size and variety of data our system collects, we needed a tool that is flexible enough, yet easy to learn for our large user base to use across multiple countries. Thank you very much for your review and feedback which is most appreciated. I'd love to learn more about your comment around being able to run multiple queries and combine them in one report as there are a few different ways in which we can often accommodate these types of requests. May I suggest getting in touch with someone on our support and or services team so we can talk it through in more detail. Mark

Three years ago, we set out to find a reporting solution that could replace SQL Server Reporting Services. We had a long list of requirements, among them: A Web Based Report Designer Easy to Create Basic Reports with Little to No Training Advanced Functionality that would Satisfy our Advanced Users Licensing that working with an onsite and SaaS deployment model A Clean Modern Looking User Interface Ability to White Label Ability to Secure the Scope of the Accessible Tables and Data Ability to Integrate with our Security Model and Dynamic Table Relationships Ability to have a Distributed Execution Model for our SaaS solution that Maintained Data Isolation and Security Exago and one other reporting solution were short listed and went into an evaluation phase. During this 2-month process, we did POC integrations, tested the performance of the solution, security, APIs, and called on technical support. We found that Exago was faster to implement and easier to use. In one of our tests, we sent out a link to both products and asked all our employees to create a report within both products, without any training on either. We found that everyone created a report in Exago, but we had a high percentage of people that could not in the competing product. Additionally, the reports made in Exago we generally built with more complexity in them, due to the ease of use. Their support was extremely responsive. So much so, that we thought that it may just be because we were in the sales cycle. I am happy to say, that is not the case. Exago is just very customer focused and has a knowledgeable support staff that is always looking out for the client.

Our company has integrated Exago into our existing web application to provide reporting capabilities to our end users while allowing our development efforts to continue to focus on new features. This has allowed us to provide a mature and feature rich reporting environment while maintaining a consistent workflow and security model for our customers. The Exago customer support has been great to work with, and they are continuing to release new features and product enhancements. We are not yet using the "dashboard" features available through Exago, so these comments do not reflect that functionality.
Their variety of report designers (Express View, Express Wizard, Standard, and Crosstab) allows users with different levels of report writing experience to use the designer and features appropriate to their abilities. The interactive report viewer allows users to adjust the formatting of a report at runtime. The ability for end users to schedule reports to be delivered as an e-mail attachment. The ability for the administrator to add custom functions to address industry-specific needs. Simple wizards for creating graphs and gauges.
Changing "interactive" filters (report parameters) reruns the report with each change, so if a user needs to select several items in a list, the report reruns with each selection, which can be quite slow. You cannot use a formula in an initial report filter, only in an interactive filter. This can result in far more data being returned to the report which you then have to filter out in the report, which is slower. Note that Exago has said this ability is supposed to be added in 2017.

I think the general help and assistance from Exago has been good so far, we are kept up to date with version releases and we have a regualr dialogue with their team which is good to see.
Becuase our version of MS reporting services was becoming obselete and the 2016 version simply was not right for our client base.
We reviewed a selection of tools on the market and we felt the Exago was the product best fit our needs based on cost and functionality. We implemented Exago as a reporting tool for our customers to run real time reports and have graphical dashboards on their home screens as a kind of snapshot summary. Exago gives you the ability to create a suite of reports ready for customers to use and export in range of formats. You can also give customers express reporting so that they can tailor their own reports however this isn't something we have done just yet but will look to do so in the future. Were overall satidfied with the product and were looking forward to working with Exago in recommending further features and improvements.
The dashboards take an incredibly long time to load and there doesn't seem to be a simple solution for fixing this just yet. Improved Map reporting would be a great addition, a number of our clients wish to view data on maps and this seems to be very limited at the moment. The UI of the dropdown filter boxes could be improved and it would be good if you could return back to your filter options after running a report if you wish to amend rather than having to run another report.

There is nothing we do not like about the system or the support team at Exago. The Customer Support and management team involvement is beyond the norm. As a start-up with limited resources, we underestimated our effort and were fortunate Exago were there to help. Take advantage of an open and transparent team, and make sure YOU have a clear understanding of your current challenges and discuss with them openly. They are not a heavy duty sales team so take advantage of that early on and you will have a system second to none in a very short period of time.
We started with Exago two years ago, around the same time as we launched our own system. At the time our clients were small and our reporting requirements fairly simple so our decision was primarily based on affordability. We could not have made a better choice, then or now. We now have larger clients and one in particular who is amazingly complex in their business (Global Logistics), now bringing in data from their legacy systems and looking to this company to report on their Operational Risk. Exago has been there every step of the way helping us grow and making our clients secure in their choice of a small start-up to push information to their global stakeholders.
We are still expanding our reach and any questions we have had were either easily answered, or on their roadmap.

We create cloud-based web-based CRM, scheduling, and accounting software. Our customers kept asking us for a way to write their own reports. We looked at the popular non-web-optimized options (like Crystal Reports) and a couple of web-based ones. Once we got a demo of Exago, we knew we'd found the perfect fit. It meets the needs of both our most sophisticated users and our many non-technical users. Now anyone can write their own tabular reports, create charts, dashboards, pivot tables, and schedule them to be automatically executed and emailed at any time. Integration was a breeze -- we had a proof-of-concept going in a few hours and a full solution ready not long after that. Best of all, the team at Exago is first-rate: friendly, accessible, and knowledgeable.
Multiple ways to write a report: Express and Visualization wizards for new users, and a full-featured canvas for experts. Easy to integrate and highly programmable with REST and .NET APIs. Works with a wide variety of data sources, and can combine data from multiple different sources. The pace of new feature development is excellent, with a great mix of customer-requested enhancements and Exago's own innovations that you may not have even thought of!
Documentation on the very advanced programmability features is incomplete (but getting better quickly)
