4.5Our organization really likes Float as a picture of future bandwidth. Managers appreciate how they can quickly make adjustments to their direct reports' assignments and we have used Float as part of new hire business cases to get a quick visual of bandwidth constraints. Float is very easy to update on the fly as projects change. Customer service via email support can be confusing and take a long time to address the original question. This could be addressed by having a slightly different triage system. Additionally, if you have multiple URLs you can't implement SSO for all of them, which we discovered only at the end of trying to implement SSO. Float is cost-effective for mid-size organizations, though how you set up the account is really how it will stay in terms of URL. If your organization changes a lot and you foresee wanting to make a lot of changes, Float may not be perfect for you. We are able to resource, plan projects, and have down-and-dirty gut checks on bandwidth more easily with Float. A wonderful feature is tagging individuals, as we are able to add skills, special notes, and more as appropriate, and filter by these tags (as well as levels, departments, etc.). Easy Planning Tool Thank you for your review, Joseph! It's great to hear that Float is helping your organization manage your teams more effectively and understand when it's time to hire! Thanks for the feedback about customer support, and implementing SSO. We'll pass that along to the team.
2.01. The intention of the tool is very helpful and it is probably amazing for smaller groups with limited projects. 2. Color coding of projects/teams/clients is helpful. 1. The interface is not obvious; features are hard to find. 2. You have to navigate between different tabs to enter information for a single project. You should be able to add projects & people from a single view. And deleting something from one tab does not carry over to another (e.g., deleting someone from a project in the Schedule does not delete them from the project team). 3. You cannot see the roll up of how over allocated someone is without trying to figure out the reports for a single person. This is incredibly frustrating for our large team with a lot of projects going on at once. The red area is not a good indication when you can hardly see it behind the projects. The row views are also quite small, which hinders this being noticeable. Then you have to do the math to see the number of hours over. Other tools we have used will give percentages for allocations and overages. 4. A single project does not take a horizontal view to scan across weeks/months, as you add new projects each week the view changes and makes it very difficult to scan. 5. You cannot specify what time off is for - would be helpful to be able to track out of the office time based on conference or vacation or maternity leave or another reason. Trying to manage a team of designers across multiple offices, clients and project work, but I cannot say we are completely solving that problem with Float without frustration. Not built for lots of projects happening at once Thanks for the feedback! Hit us up at support@float.com and we'd be happy to point you to the right resources or register you for a free webinar to get the most out of Float. You can add people and projects from the top right '+' button so you never need to leave the schedule view if you prefer. Your Admins can also add different Time Off Types from the Account Settings if you'd like more to choose from (e.g. Maternity), otherwise do feel free to add those details in the Time Off Comments field when adding these.
2.0The visual aspect of Float is fantastic. We rely heavily on the ability to color code by project manager (matched to our KanBan board) for better overhead visibility. The clarity around capacity limits (turning red at 8 hours), PTO, and project owner give a great overhead view of each resource. Also, the edit history is incredibly helpful. The software can be glitchy and hard to rely on at times. Often when moving blocks of time, the software will prompt you to refresh the page and you will lose whatever action was in progress. Sometimes the software will not let me drop a block where I want to, and I'll have to place it a few days and then manually extend/shorten the time block. The reports section was recently changed, without warning as far as I know, and it has been a huge pain point for me. I run Capacity to Contract reports using Float exports, and this structure change completely crushed my existing workflow to the point where we abandoned our old spreadsheet in favor of a completely new report. Sometimes ghost data will not show up on the schedule view, but will skew the reports for each resource. This causes a headache when running reports because I have to manually keep tabs on all numbers for each resource, given I can't trust they are 100% accurate. We use Float for our resourcing and utilization monitoring, so we are able to identify what type of work needs to be brought in at which points in the year, informing sales. We also use this as an overhead planning tool week to week. Float gets the job done, but can be glitchy. Some persisting issues that are bad for our business.
2.0It's easy to use, specifically for traffic to brief in work to the creative department. This also makes it easier for all the creatives to fill in their timesheets once everything has been scheduled. The design is clean and pleasant to look at, which makes it working with it delightful. There isn't enough training for the creatives to use it more efficiently. This hinders the level to which the software can be integrated into e-mail (if possible), and therefore have a more streamlined process instead of having multiple logins in order to use the software. Train the rest of the team well, and not just the administrators initially tasked with briefing in the work. This will assisst everyone to make the best out of this software. Use the customisable interface in order reap the best experience for oneself. It's easier to do timesheets once work has been logged on float. I have nothing more to add but require to use more words in order to fill the word count, in terms of UX I think tghis was a short sight from the survey creators. This might just make it a wordy response rather than dealing with specific points from my experience of the softweare. Luckily I am almost there with regards to the word count and can get my $20 for these surveys. All in all it is a good product and more training should be provided for all stakeholders. Integration to rest of the team Hi Kagisho, Thanks for the feedback. We offer free training, just send us a note at support@float.com and we'll sort you out! 5.0Keeping track of calendar events and task management is so smooth using Float.
5.0I really like using float for the first time in my 7 years of professional career as it helped me to move me from sticky notes to the web version of a kind of time table that I used to create for my day to day tasks. Its feature of scheduling has also helped my manager to have the right visibility of my work time as a result of which he has kept our work management balanced.
5.0I like the idea of being able to colour code tasks, assign tasks to an email and define time requirements as well as project details within a task. I also really enjoy the reporting side of things.

4.5Float is being used by myself and my Director of Operations. We both use the service to forecast out our cash flow. Depending on the numbers we see we allocate more to each department across the organization to spend more in order to grow faster. This is a crucial service for us as we are trying to maximize our growth by spending as much as possible.
Float is great for a startup/small (< 20 employee companies) that have limited resources for keeping an eye on cash flow. Yes, you could hire a contractor CFO, but it would simply be less expensive to use Float and educate yourself a bit about cash flow. For larger companies I feel like you would have a dedicated financial controller or CFO that may already have tools they are familiar with, but this service might also still be useful.
Cash flow management. Forecasting out how much you can spend. Quickbooks integration.
Quickbooks integration could be improved to automatically include recurring transactions. Pricing is a little steep for smaller businesses.
5.0Float in our organization manages the capacity, work hours, and public holidays. We use float to assign or reassign resources to projects. Assign hours to resource on the particular project and we can also view the holidays in between if any. Assigning of task is very easy and quick using float. It also helps us in reporting.
I would definitely recommend everyone to use Float, It's easy and friendly to use. Performance-wise as well it is great. Really helps in streamline and scheduling resources and their utilization. Its reporting feature is great, Shows all projects for a particular resource or all resources for a particular project. It's a go-to tool for management.
Assigning task Maintaining Holidays Reports on Project or resource
More mobile friendly Scrolling through x and y dimension is bit confusing I have been using Float for a long time and no more cons I can think of.

3.0I've been using CETA scheduling software for the last 4 years in big VFX companies and I must say that Float is not there yet but is actually getting broadly comparable. In the last 4 months that I introduced it into my new team it's proved to be quite useful to keep track of the progression of our projects. During these months I've seen that it has already improved in many areas that I'm excited to see what comes next. I can see it can become a really powerful software.
Monday has too many tools that you don't really get to use when scheduling. It also doesn't have an overview of projects as clear as the one Float has.
There aren't may softwares that let you schedule a team in such an easy and organised way. I think most softwares nowadays are too complex and make you spend more time organising tasks than actually working on them. Float is so clear and simple you can actually use it to manage big projects without spending too much time on it.
It's getting better, but it would be very useful if we could: - Right click on a pencil and be able to copy it over into a different person. - Book more than one person on the same project (for example if two workers are on the same project because one of them is doing a training but you don't want to charge twice for that time). - Lately when I try to schedule more than 1 project in one day on the same person I get a message saying I can't schedule anyone for more than 24 hours) even if I'm not exceeding the 8 normal working hours. It'd be great if that could be fixed. - It'd be good if milestones were more visible. - I think reports should be a bit less complicated and more visual. - It'd be really helpful if you could group projects up in folders when you go to the Projects tab as at the moment we have like... 45 different projects going on and although we color code them it's difficult to organise all of them. -I'd like to have more than only three types of view when looking at our schedules a part from 'Days, 'Weeks' and 'Months'. It'd be great if you could 'Archive' users as well as projects. So when a worker it's not working at the company anymore and you don't want to pay for it on Float you can kind of 'Archive' him (so you are not able to book him on anything but still you can see him on the boards so you don't loose what it's been scheduled on him.)
4.0Although I list here several cons, I think these are far outweighed by the practical benefits of using the product, and certainly don't dampen the experience too much. My experience so far with Float has been one of trying to make it reflect reality, and encourage adoption within our organisation. I think the real advantage of using it will be one project managers are widely aware of its benefits, and proactively use it to resource projects and keep abreast of changes in the availability of our team.
Float is an incredibly intuitive piece of software to use, with a simple calendar-like interface that everyone can understand. I have found that this aspect of the software is helpful in promoting its adoption within our teams. The experience is consistent across the product, which has allowed me to discover more and more features in and enrich the experience of using the product.
The performance of the software is occasionally a bit lacklustre. For example, I often find myself accidentally clicking somewhere on the screen which prompts a dialogue box to open to enter a new task. This problem is especially pronounced when using a trackpad, and isn't something that I experience elsewhere. Additionally, the interface seems to have a strange way of 'splitting' tasks that occur across multiple days. I have found that it often leaves blank gaps that give the illusion that a team member is working more hours per day than they actually are. There are a few features that I would like to see when going forward. Firstly, I think it would be good if there were different options when 'resizing' a task. Currently, the task can be resized independently across both axes (i.e. how many hours per day, and across how many days). I think it would be good if there were an option for these to affect each other - i.e. the total number of hours allocated to the project remains the same and could be allocated fewer hours across more days, or more hours across fewer days.
5.0What do your employees expect in terms of corporate communication? Employees no longer hesitate to use their personal tools and applications for professional purposes. Collaboration and communication tools promote new uses and new ways of working within a digital, agile company that is increasingly extended to its external ecosystem. Collaboration and communication tools promote new uses and new ways of working in a digital, agile and increasingly extended company to its external ecosystem. Float as an internal communication tool makes all this possible, bringing managers and employees closer to the company and meeting their expectations in terms of information. Fun, practical and functional, Float has become for me an indispensable managerial tool, both to explain the company's strategy and to highlight my results. It also allows me to motivate my colleagues!
I find that the features already present are exactly what I need for my start up: the possibility to call each other via Chrome browser is a plus. The mobile application is really very useful and makes Float easier to use. Not only does it allow me to continue to follow the threads of conversation wherever I am (in a meeting, on the road, anywhere), but also to send attachments (images, records, etc.). The integration with other applications is very ergonomic: I use Jira and Confluence a lot and the widgets in Float are very responsible as soon as I import a link for my collaborators.
I'm a fan of it, I find that it is not lacking in functionality, but if I ever change my mind, I know that the customer service department will welcome my remarks and suggestions with kindness and professionalism. However, I do find that the possibility of not having to change browsers and make or receive calls from Mozilla would be great.
5.0Float is a product I like using, and I wish some of its features and UX elements were in the other software that I use! We use Synergist for job and project management, but Float for scheduling because it UX is so much better than Synergist's scheduler tool.
Float's user interface and logic are inspirational. They have made the activity of coordinating multiple resources on multiple projects about as easy as it can be. They have paid a lot of attention to usability, efficient use of screen real estate and simple navigation. However the killer feature is the intuitive yet clever way that searching and data navigation work. All searching and filtering is done using a single search field, which offers indexed word search on pretty much everything including tags. There is also a well-worked out protocol for handling union and intersect searches.
The only real bugbear is that any user that can enter data into the system can define new values for any field. It isn't possible to centrally control lists such as task names, clients, job descriptions etc. This means that if you have more than one person using the system, very quickly you get different versions of the same thing being defined (e.g. job roles being slightly different) which makes it difficult to analyse across records. Not a dealbreaker, but I do think it should be possible to lock down lists of values. Also it would be good if you could zoom out the view a little more - if you're dealing with more than a dozen resources/projects.
5.0We needed a way to easily plan and then communicate on our respective tasks for the week. With Basecamp (what we use for project management currently), we could pull to-do lists, but we didn't have a macro view on the week or the month with the time that it would take to complete those tasks. My designer felt like he couldn't really "'visualize" his week and couldn't communicate easily what tasks were taking more or less time than needed. Float has proved to be invaluable for time management and communication.
I like that I (as a project manager) can manage time easily for our team of two, but can easily add contract workers, and that visually it works for my designer as well -- he struggled with really seeing how his week needed to flow when just using tasklists, like Basecamp.
Anything I haven't liked has been added (e.g. ability to do recurring tasks, reordering tasks). It's a small thing, but we also spend way too much time trying to figure out colors for all of our projects after using the default ones. I would love to be able to add a project from the schedule interface -- like when I go to schedule time and I type in a project, it tries to find it; if it's not there, it would be nice to just have "add this project" without having to exit out of the scheduling box and go into Project.
5.0A very positive experience allowing the company I work for to get better more accurate project plans and financial reports.
Excel was clunky and out schedule was increasing in ambition and scope.
The ease of use as a one stop shop, browser based to allow all the development team (and subsiduary but linked teams) to see important dates like dev complete, bug fix windows, cert windows and release dates. The ability to quickly block out time for features and projects. The ability to add notes and details to tasks. Fully fleshed out holiday and time off structure. Robust financial reports possible with very high degree of accuracy for budget per project, per quarter, per annum. We used to get by with using Excel, we invested in Float and it has taken the companies' project planning to the next step. I would recommend Float for small to mid sized companies definitely, it is a great product boost and good way of reporting and seeing issues early.
it does not allow you to easily move a bunch of small tasks along in the timeline, that's my only main gripe, you can't band box select you have to shift select. Everything else is intuitive and easy.
