Dynamic dashboards which provide different views of data sets Data sharing and team collaboration Non-tech users can also efficiently work on the tool without much help Simple and hassle-free to maintain Multiple user licenses are pretty reasonably priced Selection and highlight features are quite handy to segregate data sets Data compression makes the output files less bulky Load/Reload sometimes fails, which can be attributed to poor RAM management or multi-user fetch simultaneiusly Scriptwriting/coding requires expert knowledge Embedding/syncing QV with other applications/tools is quite cumbersome UI/UX is outdated compared to other similar BI tools QV is quite sturdy and reliable. It can be handy for small teams. The help of a QV coding expert is necessary at times. If your projects undergo constant changes periodically, there are plenty of BI tools that have much better usability than QV. Managing and reviewing the capacity of team members and project management related metrics. Using QV to derive vast chunks of data lying in individual excel files, analyze and interpret them

Best thing about qlikview is you don't need to connect to live instances, they are cached data basically into qvd(the tools data source). And setting up this offline mode workflow is comparatively easier than some of its competitors As there is natural data growth the qlik local data generation becomes a redundant job. Also since we need more complex visibility on trends regular patches on query becomes a tidius work. Patches and maintenance are not straight forward untill you learn the entire query. A through planning is needed always as you start a new qlikview project which is difficult in initial phase Trend analysis, enhancing product decesion making. Qlikview helps our sales team to review analyse customer interest and dislikes. That way sales can approach customer to unblock them or introduce them to other products under umbrella.

Qlik View is excellent on interface and platform connectivity. I have used Qlik View along with Qlik NPrinting, and indeed the results are exceptional. Compared to its competitors, Qlik View has a better ETL rate, and the overall refresh rate is better. The only thing missing within Qlik View is the functionality of visuals and toolset. If improved, then users can leverage this platform for better analytics. These changes should be made to the platform interface itself. If you are looking for a one-stop platform for all the analytics, dashboarding, and reporting of your organizational data, Qlik View could be a good choice. Daily reporting of data to the business users, delivering the story within data in a presentation form, deriving predictive analytics of the data are everyday challenges solved with the help of Qlik View dashboards.

I manage nine millions of rows with 32 gigs of ram, a super server and QlikView freezes without warning. Have to be watching ram usage constantly so I don't have to reboot the computer after freezes. SAVE CAN TAKE MINUTES... Sometimes, when it freezes, corrupt the document in a way you can not use it again. The most you can do is recover the script.... AND IS VERY OFTEN... Sometimes is necessary to create a chain of QVD to resume data so at the last dashboard does not freezes, don't crash the computer or take minutes to react and give results. In the script, if you change from one sheet to another, when going back, have to scroll again to reach the point where you were; does not stays in the same spot. In the debug, once you open it, have to run it because if not freezes or take very long to go back to the layout. Many times debug may work but the whole process don't. QlikView is a great tool to quickly and easily pivot on raw data. It's dynamic model allows the user to quickly analyze data in multiple dimensions. QlikView is not a visually appealing tool and therefore is a Consultants nightmare. The tool only allows picture extracts for the graphs, which look terrible in PPT. Also, some level of coding is required to make the graphs visually appealing. For example, I had to modify the script and add left joins to create a customer sequence of values on the X axis. The tool's UI allows the user to sort the x axis A-Z, or by magnitude, but does not allow for customer sorts. This is just one example of the user interface not playing nice. I used QlikView at a large Utility company to analyze technology cost data across each of its business units. We incorporated 7 different cost types and created a model that highlighted each cost type across the various business units over the past year.

-Interactivity of the finished charts and dashboards -Associative search functionality allowing a key word search across a whole database without multiple filters on the screen -Connecting to a well structured set of tables with normalized keys and column titles is simple -Formatting flexibility -Free personal download available for personal use -It takes considerable effort to create a simple, good looking visualisation as there are a vast amount of options -Often, there is a requirement to work with the keyboard and code, which moves development of analysis to the IT side of the business -No free web version for the casual data blogger -Whilst it can be achieved, I would not expect QlikView to replace all your current ETL and data processing currently done in a data warehouse -Ensure that the product has IT support -Think carefully about the licenses and use cases you need before comparing against other products

Tableau was the closest I came to a competing product but their limited on the ETL side and the associative experience. I like Tableau but for a simpler purpose. QlikSense will be strong competitor with Tableau but they are both good products.
First and foremost: DO I UNDERSTAND MY DATA? if the answer is NO, QlikView is your best option. QlikView allows you to jump right into your data using the green/white/grey you can quickly begin to see the relationships amongst the various tables. There is no other tool that allows for this deep dive so quickly. You will have answers in minutes. I have worked with clients from varying industries and many which I do not have industry experience. Because of QlikView I was able to create a data model for them in a very short time.
ETL! QlikView is the simplest product that not only provides great visuals for UI but it also handles complex ETL. Easy to implement. We have successfully installed QlikView server and desktop within one week with a fully functional dashboard published for end users. DATA DISCOVERY! The green/white/grey is such a powerful tool. The first thing I do when II arrive onsite with a client is connect to their data and jump right into the data. The grey is the most valuable. I can see what is NOT relating to my selections. This is not possible, so far, in any other business discovery tool. Set Analysis! Qlikview's set analysis allows me to calculate from the very basic to the super complex expressions. It does not take long to learn either. QLIK COMMUNITY! The community consists of master users and Qlik employees and basic to new users. It is a huge resource for all users and allows you to get answers quickly then copy script and/or dashboards so no need to recreate the wheel. ITS FREE forever and fully functional. You just cannot open licensed applications. What a great marketing tool. QlikSense will be free forever with the ability to share your applications! Just gets better.
Licensing model could be easier to understand. It is not bad, but takes a while for the clients to understand it. QlikSense will have a greatly improved licensing model from what I hear. QlikSense is covering for all the requested Qlik11 improvements. I think the 2 products will compliment each other.

We evaluated a lot of other products in the magic quadrant but primarily compared QV against Tableau. We initially wanted to go with Tableau because it was cheaper and a simpler product to learn and use but frankly, their sales person was horrible and was not willing to work with us on number of licences or price. Qlikview was a great alternative. The product was better and even though it was a little more expensive, the more flexible licensing arrangement made up for it.
It is a great tool if you are looking for a very powerful BI product with a lot of options. It is not good for those looking for a simple BI tool who have a short ramp-up time. It is not as intuitive to use as other products (like Tableau) but it is absolutely fantastic if you want to do more than the basics.
Qlikview has an excellent online community support. This was probably the best part of buying the project. I had never worked in BI before purchasing Qlikview but after a short one-week class, I was up and running. Whenever I got stuck, I reviewed previous posts or posted a question myself. The questions were almost always answered within a couple of hours. The fantastic community really helped me learn the product. Qlikview is a great product and very powerful. It is not always easy learning all the formulas but for those who know it, it can do almost anything you want a BI tool to do. It is fantastic at integrating multiple sources of information. Qlikview provides a lot of free demo dashboards which are fantastic to learn from. They are open so you can see exactly how they were designed behind the scene. The variety of boards are a great strawman or baseline to use for almost any BI initiative that people take on.
The formula for harder BI analytics is neither intuitive or easy to learn. It really helps if you have some kind of SQL background. I really wish there were more out-of-the-box options that we can customize. It may be more of a server issue but it can take hours to run a single query. You have to define a lot of parameters for almost anything you create so the tool forces you to spend a lot of time selecting different options. I wish they had good pre-defined templates for layouts for us to choose from.

Our shortlist included Tableau, a newer version of Microsoft's SSRS and Qlikview. We also knew what Micro Strategies and Business Objects had to offer from our experiences with them at other companies, and knew what we could afford. We eliminated them on price and the complexity of set-up. We liked QlikView's in memory, associative model, and self-service capability. With "in-memory", everything that gets consumed from a dashboard is loaded in memory so it is incredibly fast. Although Qlik touts its mobile distribution capabilities, that was not a huge differentiator for us, but is something we are now exploring. Microsoft and and BO do have in-memory capabilities now. The associative model is patented by QlikView. Basically it starts to understand the associations in your data, e.g. if A=B and B=C, then A=C. It means you can build a Qlikview model very quickly. In traditional data warehousing, you work with users and understand their requirements, refine the data model, start to physicalize it, tune it, build ETLs. It's a 3 month at best delivery cycle. That doesnt work here at this company. Our business users will not wait for you. Our business is dynamic, we are launching new products all the time. Instead of going through an arduous process, you just load data into QlikView and build an associative model. It link things up. If it doesnt work, you can change things very quickly. You dont have to write data definitional language. Where you get into trouble, is if you load very large data sets into QlikView, memory not as abundant. They are releasing a tool called data explorer which allows you to do a hybrid approach load some in memory and some in database. If data is going into frequently used dashboards it goes into memory. If infrequent access is required and the data set is very large, it makes sense to leave it in the database. We also have a company called DataRoket that builds connectors for us, e.g. load this relational data into QlikView. They have built adapters for QlikView-Hadoop integration.
Self-service In-memory performance Associative model Their UI from a development perspective, for developing dashboards. A lot of the components that you can place on a dashboard, i.e. filters, sliders etc. are handy You can spit out to Excel, PDF.
Out of the box, the governance and meta data management is not great. You can buy another product for that. Out of the box, you can get yourself in trouble. We have solved for that through business process and workflow. They are still a bit tied too Microsoft tools like Internet Explorer. Working on Firefox, Chrome, Safari is not the same experience. We would really like them adapt. For example, when viewing a line graph with multiple points on graph, if you zoom over a point, it will light up the bubble in IE, but we cannot get it to work the same way in other browsers. Performance tuning explain plans dont exist. Our ability to do custom Ajax development we would like to put in a widget, where we can do an uptime call and have nothing else change. No documentation etc. Documentation is ok.

Very suitable if users have both development and analytical capacity. Great sharing functionalities among small group of users. Good for inter-connectivity among different data sources and tools such as Postgres DB, Excel, etc. Ability to query database directly is a huge advantage. Dynamic reporting functionality with automated scheduled jobs works well across departments, especially where there are end-users that are not Qlikview developers. Very nice and thoughtful UI. Most business end-users love it because it's intuitive.
Not good for sharing across a medium-to-large organizations and among mixed user groups, some of whom may not have developer's licence to access apps directly. Even if an app is shared as a web-based version, users have little power to make changes and must always rely on developers on the smallest revisions. As a developer, I find it to be quite unpredictable and erratic in the way it handles data. For example, Qlikview will always try to connect fields among different tables without being told that they are the same, because it treats all tables as flat files and does not handle relational data the way other tools work. I understand Qlikview is trying to be helpful here but that's not how it should work. Another development issue I always run into with Qlikview is with the chart/object property box. It is not intuitive the way they've grouped the various functionalities in different tabs. This makes simple tasks confusing and frustrating. Things that should be found under "Axes", for example, are found in "Numbers" or "Presentation". It took me a year to learn where things are. I think Qlikview should learn from Excel on this. Can be quite buggy if one tries to do a few things at the same times such as running SQL, reading from external data tables, running incremental loads, and creating variables in load script, not to mention using complex functions and set analyses for the front end. This means it doesn't help with business continuity when people leave their job and an app changes hands.

QlikView vs Tableau The Tableau solution implementation is pretty slow when compared to that of QlikView. The data interpretation from multiple data sources is a pain point in Tableau as it increases complexity. QlikView vs Microsoft PowerBI PowerBI is a powerful BI tool rather than a data intelligence analytics tool. The data interpretation and report creation features are far superior in QlikView than in PowerBI.The cost factor in using PowerBI exceeds the similar implementation of QlikView.
QlikView is well suited in scenarios where there are large sets of data that need to be included in data identification and analysis. It would be beneficial in an organization where multiple forms of data are created and need to be interpreted with BI in place, when you want an on the fly view for multiple BI reporting options. It wouldn't be a good option if you need multiple variations of graphical charts required for dashboard creation, or if you need ease of use with geographical data representation.
Performance aspects are the major reason behind picking QlikView. We have tried working with Tableau but find QlikView comparatively is faster. QlikView can effortlessly combine all sizes of data sets. Gauge charts and 3D graphs were not available on other platforms when we started evaluating QlikView. In QlikView, gauge charts are available for you to use in an ease of use system. QlikView also has 3D graph forms to showcase data. BI Reporting is a strong feature of QlikView. Strong visualizations with BI reporting are one reason why we picked the solution as they help us deliver requirements faster.
In QlikView, building a map visualization takes a long time since it needs scripting and external extension for this. The interface of Qlikview has too many items and tools on its menu which are rarely used but provide a wide range of ways in which the data can be showcased. The areas where graphical changes need to be, you will have to write the logic for it. No Drag and Drop implementations.

QlikView is one of the most manageable BI platforms, quick-to-deploy, easy-to-learn, and perfect to get started with data visualization.
