We use APS Payroll and APS Hire. This is a powerful combination of tools. It is intuitive for most day-to-day tasks , has a massive collection of articles and videos in the Help library, AND an extremely responsive service team that can answer any question or situation we have thrown their way. I in no way have ever felt I was alone and unsupported. I must be very careful when choosing my words when asking for help! I have to be more specific. The program does not read my mind! The upside is that, in sifting thru the suggested Help articles, I also learned more about the program! Our GL is Great Plains. We have always had to make time-consuming accommodations to get payroll information into Great Plains. With the reporting in APS, we can create Excel files that can be copied and pasted into GP without error! We are saving time with how APS is organized. Previously we have had to enter payroll details Employee by Employee. Each pay period, we were re-entering the same information for each employee. We require less time to complete payroll, which allows us to move on to other accounting functions. We actually have eliminated one staff position. Karen, thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are happy to hear that our platform has saved you time. We're pleased that you're using the Help center and your dedicated support team. We look forward to working with you in the future. Thank you for being a valued APS customer.

Love that APS offers all aspects of an HRIS system at an AFFORDABLE price. We are a small business and can't afford the big name payroll vendors, but get everything they offer at APS for a price we can afford as a small business. I also like that APS owns its system. Our past payroll provider used a platform they didn't own and thus couldn't make any changes for their customers. APS has their own development team that we can give recommendations and suggestions for improving the system. Their reporting capabilities could be improved. They are aware of this and it is my understanding their development team is working on enhancing their reporting functionality extensively. We were able to bring all of our companies together on ONE HRIS system and are utilizing their Benefits module and Carrier Connection to reduce and minimize the administrative tasks our HR team was having to do manually. Our employees love the ease of the mobile app and its allowed both our managers and employees to become more self-sufficient in tasks they used to come to HR for regularly. Jackie, thank you for taking the time to write us an excellent review. We are happy to hear that you are pleased with our prices and you use everything our system offers. We will let the development team know your feedback about the reporting capabilities. We value you as a customer and look forward to working with you in the years to come!

I love that there are layers for checking the accuracy of payroll runs. With all of the variations we have with each payroll, it is essential that we have the opportunity to check our accuracy at multiple levels. Another definite upside is the help/assistance that is available if needed. They are quick and responsive! The reports are also fabulous and easy to find and work with! Tax account support. Though they're far more knowledgeable and helpful than our previous provider, the support for tax account and tax notice questions is slow and usually not as helpful as I would like. I do end up completing a lot of the state tax items on my own, including occasionally filing and paying for monthly or quarterly reports. Paying our 1099 independent contractors through direct deposit as well as completing and filing 1099s, W-2s, and various state tax reports and payments. Having APS complete those items takes a ton off of my plate and allows me to focus on our company's mission. Rebecca, thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are happy to hear that your dedicated support team has been fast to respond, and the reports have been easy to work with. We're sorry to hear that our tax account support has not been helpful. I will pass along the feedback. Thank you for being a valued APS customer, we look forward to working with you in the future!

*Updated - APS did not uphold the terms of our agreement and we got out of the contract and moved to a different payroll system. They fired the only person who was helpful during the implementation, and things went downhill from there. We started shopping almost as soon as we started the implementation. Don't waste your time. All in one system, our previous setup had three different systems managing performance reviews, recruiting, and payroll. We also didn't have centralized benefits administration, which we're hoping makes for an easier open enrollment this year. We also hope the reporting capabilities will reduce the need for manual tracking via Google sheets. The training was done well, just not as quickly as we had hoped. UI/UX is not very intuitive, some tabs seem redundant, I typically have to look several places for information before finding the correct spot. The same is true of eselfserve - for example, employees don't update their direct deposit info in the "Pay" tab, they update it in the "Info" tab. There are several missing features, like having employee managers as a built-in field (you can create a custom field to track this, but it adds unnecessary administrative burden). Implementation has also been much longer than we were promised (4-6 weeks, and it's taken 3 months and still isn't complete). Be very thorough with discovery before signing a sales order. Make sure it covers all your needs. Centralized, all in one HRIS. Reducing the use of multiple systems. Hopefully streamlined hiring to onboarding to starting. Checklists for onboarding that allow us to keep track of tasks and ensure everything is completed before an employee's first day and nothing is missed. Hopefully easier open enrollment, prior year's open enrollment was a lot of manual data entry by both the employee and the administrator, it added administrative burden, hopefully APS syncing with our providers streamlines the process and reduces errors. We appreciate you updating your review. We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your APS experience. Our goal during the sales process is to ensure that our system is a good fit for potential clients. We are currently working on several product enhancements to improve the user experience for all of our clients, based on their feedback. Since you feel that your needs are not being met, we would like the opportunity to speak with you further about how we can make things better. We cannot reach out to you since you reviewed us anonymously, so I am providing the contact information for our Vice President of Client Success, April Remedies, so you can schedule a time to talk about what we can do to make your experience better: aremedies@apspayroll.com. We appreciate your constructive feedback about our system and will pass it along to our development team. Thank you for your time in updating your review, and we hope you have a great day!

APS offers a set up in processing payroll compared to other payroll solutions I've used before, such as Paychex. One feature we utilize every payroll is the easy upload of files into payroll. APS offers the ability to upload multiple files without over-riding data already entered. This has been extremely helpful for us due to half our employees using a separate time tracking system. We also upload additional files for commission and expense reimbursements. Overall, things run pretty smooth. APS isn't very moldable to our needs, and we find ourselves trying to change the way to do things to fit them. I feel this should be the other way around. We've encountered many payroll specific struggles that seem to be pretty basic things. One frustration we often have is not being able to view a gross to net check for an employee on the spot. We have to pre-submit the payroll batch and then view it as a whole to get that view. This takes up a lot of time and doesn't help with our payroll efficiency. Another area that has caused a big headache is that the time and attendance module. This module doesn't currently offer an auto clock-out feature. If an employee forgets to clock out the "flag" is only visible until the employee clocks back in for their next shift leaving a short window for the manager to catch it. Our payroll specialist has been forced to run an hours exception report to look for single shifts in excess of 12 hours before processing payroll to verify managers caught and corrected these mistakes. Having an auto clock-out feature seems like a pretty basic thing. We have grown significantly in the past year and are realizing our needs are no longer being met by using APS. Before our growth, APS offered a pretty good tool for payroll processing and maintaining basic employee information. For a small company APS could be a cost effective solution. I wouldn't suggest them for a company larger than 300 people or for those that have complicated payroll needs. APS, as its name illustrates, is an automated payroll system. It isn't a robust HR solution. Thank you so much for your honest and enlightening review, we really appreciate your feedback. We would love the opportunity to speak with you one on one and discuss your concerns. If you could please contact Josh Johnson, Client Services Manager, at jjohnson@apspayroll.com or 318-213-3266, he would be happy to talk further.

The simplicity of the website. How easy it is to navigate around and complete your payroll run. I do not like how hard it is to submit a bath for a multi-unit company. I have to call in my batch every pay period and cannot just click batch on the web page itself. I also do not like how there isn't a "save" button on the website to lock in everyone's hours, deductions, etc that we just plugged in. There are sometimes when I double check that everything is entered correctly and call in the batch, only to find out that one or two of my units did not receive any hours! And when I call to find out why, the people I talk to have no idea why the stores were left out. And to avoid this from happening in the future, I was told to take a screen shot of the batch page after each unit has entered their info and email the screen shots to someone at the company! That is outrageous! JUST CREATE SAVE BUTTON! And then if I ever do not remember to call in my batch, let's say if it just slipped my mind or if I have other things going on demanding my attention that week, no one is there to catch my back and ask if we are submitting a batch that week. Each company should have an account rep that looks to see when they are scheduled to do payrolls that can call and remind you when your deadline is coming up. Make sure not to forget to submit your batch! They'll never call to remind you and you'll have to wait a couple of days to still do direct deposit either that or you'll have to hand write checks again. Double and triple check that you have all your information entered before submitting your batch. The website does not always save what you enter! Using this payroll company, usually, simplifies our payroll. It allows us to have control over everyone's information, set their pay, deductions, etc ourselves. We can decide when to run a payroll and even run a random payroll for just a few employees if we forgot about them. It also allows us to easily plug in people's direct deposit info ourselves instead of sending that sensitive information off via email. Employees can also receive emails letting them know when they got paid and can even get online to find and view pay stubs.

The whole process goes very smoothly. If we have something we want to change, the change gets made fairly quickly. If we need to speak to a rep they are a phone call or email away.

DO NOT use APS payroll services. They lie and what they sale you is not right. They lock you in for a year and then do not let you out even though they do not provide you with the services promised. It sounds good on the sales side but do not believe a word that comes out of [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] mouth. Their implementation is poor and no one is on the same page. it does not do what they say it will do.

We switched our 80 employee weekly payroll to APS in January 2016. Out of 4 payrolls run they committed serious errors and omissions of details to us causing failed direct deposits, check numbers starting at 100 and uncashable at many paycheck cashing services, as well an a long list of more minor errors and overcharges. They refused to pay for the errors or refund the over $2000 we paid for implrmentation. This made January the highest cost payroll month in our 32 year history with more total errors in one month than in the prior ten years.

We wanted a system that employees could use but it's not intuitive and not visually pleasing. The onboarding process was painful for system setup, so we never subjected our employees to it.

We had used ADP for years and had always struggled with their customer service. With over 20 locations (20+ W2s, quarterly filings, etc) we had a lot of questions. We would have to call and sit on hold for long periods of time to talk to someone who couldn't always answer our questions. Then we would get different answers from different people or have to re-explain our issue. It was a major time suck for my employees and they dreaded having to call all of the time. For us - the final straws for us to switch providers were: +Numerous year end filings with incorrect names and addresses (they couldn't keep our 20+ locations separate even though our paperwork was completed correctly)+Incorrect SUI rates for several locations that resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in overpayments which was a lot of money for small hotels. We had sent in numerous requests for them to fix this but it never happened+Lack of care - even though we were having all of these issues, nobody would work with us to get them all resolved and make sure to remedy the situation. We had to seek out a manager to get them resolved but even after this, we still had more issues.Overall - DON'T stick with ADP or even think about switching to them. They might be able to slash prices but their poor customer service and lack of care will cost you in the end. It's not worth it. APS does everything ADP had the capability of but we don't have the errors or headaches we did before. I am really looking forward to this year end!
I think that APS Online is scalable to any organization. It's a wonderful product and I have had so many managers that work with me that feel the same way. We haven't been with them quite a year yet but since we've started it has made a world of difference for us. Things to ask about- 1- Do they specialize in or can they accommodate states that you are working in and their various rules?2- What type of customer service? Do they have a call center or do they have a designated person like APS?3- How long do your reports stay in the system? (ADP "archived" theirs after a year so we couldn't reach them)
CUSTOMER SERVICE. They are so helpful and you get a really quick response. You don't ever sit on hold for hours on end and you get the RIGHT answer or resolution to your problem. We previously had ADP which was a nightmare so APS Online customer service has made our bi-weekly payroll runs a breeze. Customizable - we were able to make any adjustments as needed to our different departments, types of rates, types of vacation accruals etc. With the great customer service we can explain exactly what needs to change and they take care of it right away. Transition from your old provider - APS Online worked with us and pulled in all of our old information. It made our workload a lot easier. They even helped pull reports for us to use from our old system which has helped us complete various workers comp audits. Reporting - through APS Online you can create SO many custom reports. Its easy to use and very intuitive.
State by state rules - In a few states that we work in they have very strict rules on overtime, sick leave, etc and APS didn't have the time and attendance pre-configured correctly for these. Their development team has really worked with us to handle it but it just took a bit longer. Overall though they have been very upfront about it and have been able to make the necessary changes. No scheduling - I think this is something in development right now but I know that other larger companies do have this capability. It would be great to have but it truly hasn't "hurt" our ability to do payroll.

I have used ADP for many years and always found the system to be restrictive in ADP's resistance to building rules that matched the organization's needs rather than asking the organization to modify its policies to match 'canned' rules already built within ADP. Bamboo and several other newer systems really cannot support the many separate EINs under the corporate umbrella. And, finally, the other products are simply too costly for this organization.
For an organization like mine that is not terribly vertical in its management infrastructure, the APS system is just right because it is not as complex as an Ultimate Software/Kronos/PeopleSoft product. So, there isn't a huge learning curve in bringing non-HR managers and end-users up to speed on the best practice use of the system. However, there may be organizations with much thicker layers and internal specialization that may find this product to lack some of the sophistication required to really address some of the 'real time' concerns of a large and complex organization.
The integrated database for all aspects of the system helps to eliminate having to enter and exit multiple sites and keeps administrative efforts more streamlined. The dedicated support help at both APS Online and also APS Hire is fantastic! I appreciate having a dedicated project manager with all new locations added because that allows me to be sure that the creation and implementation of a new payroll [are] done consistently and also gave me a contact with questions/concerns outside of simply reaching out to the dedicated helpdesk support group with questions that are more specifically related to organizational growth. My sales representative is always 'checking in' with me and that lets me know that our business is important to APS!
I have had some issues with emails not populating on the user end for applicants which creates some 'glitches' in smooth applicant hire to onboarding to export. It did not seem that in being introduced to the APS Hire product that enough was stated in clear enough terms to understand that unless my organization paid job boards outside of APS that our postings would not have [the] opportunity to 'headline' and our job openings were not always easily found by our prospective employees. We've worked with part of the customer service and engineering group to help the system to support employees working at multiple locations (under separate EIN) than what the system was initially built to support. However, there are still some parts of the employee record that do not naturally transfer when a new record is built for the employee in a new payroll that could use some additional 'tweaking'.

APS Online is a much simpler system to use for end users and administrators, processing is quicker (immediate), and integration between the various modules is seamless. In the past, HRB talked to Payroll module, Payroll module talked to Etime, however HRB didn't talk to Etime resulting in duplicate entry of data. I have a designated representative that provides assistance without sitting on hold. Overall, I'm thrilled with our decision to switch and expect that the longer I use the system, the more benefit I will be able to get out of it.
Our goal was to simplify our payroll process and make it more user friendly. Very happy with final outcome.
APS OnLine is a great end user product and very easy for our employees. They have quick access to all their information, their accrual balances, hours worked, etc. They are able to enter their time off requests in the system. Although our prior system had these capabilities, employees had difficulty accessing system. If they couldn't get in, they couldn't use it. More employees logged on to APS in the first two weeks of use than in the prior three years with former system. Integration - Data is real-time. When you enter information in one area of the software, it is immediately present in the rest of the system. No waiting for overnight interface. Change log provides backup for any changes that have been made as well as safeguards in the approval process. Administrative ease - The system is very straight forward, logical, and easy to operate from the administrative end. [There is a] designated representative to address questions as they arise. No sitting on hold.
Reporting - We have six different business units and the reporting is separate for all three. Most reporting I do requires information from all business units so am running six reports and then copying and pasting to get the report I need. Multi-state taxes - We have a number of employees who live in New York and work in New Jersey. APS OnLine is designed to accommodate one state withholding so ability to have "worked in" state and "lived in" state taxes withheld went away. This was a shortfall. The Carrier connection setup took much longer than expected. After a year, we are still having some issues with some items transferring over to the GL. The CA overtime calculation does not calculate after 8 hours per day, only on the 40 per week so we override each week. Reporting - when running Benefit reports, it recognizes employees who formerly carried the plan but may have dropped it. To get around this, we have to delete off the employee's record so the history is not readily available.

I started up a PEO/ASO/HRO company in Hawaii in 2009 and grew it to the 2nd largest in the HR/Payroll firm in the state. I sold this company to the largest competitor in 2016 when we were running $200 million of payroll and managed over 10,000 employees in multiple states. I can honestly say that I wish I discovered APS Payroll Software when I started my HR company, as this software truly blows away our PEO/HR/Payroll system we used. When I sold my HR/Payroll company, I was looking at finding a new payroll software that could also handle all of our HR administration. I attended a Sage Intacct (accounting software) conference and met APS in the Exhibit Hall with numerous vendors. The final selling point is APS directly integrates into Sage Intacct. Finally, we have one login in which we can access all of our internal companies and external clients we process payroll for. There are so many bell and whistles available and it is very easy to learn and use. I highly recommend APS to everyone looking for an affordable payroll software, with an even more impressive and responsive team.
APS is very thorough with all of its various solutions: payroll, human resources, benefits administration, document storage, Time & Attendance, PTO, APS Hire (recruiting/job boards), Applicant Tracking, Online On-Boarding, Asset Management, etc, etc.
I cannot think of anything that I do not like about APS. Their technical team is very flexible with custom solutions, APS Customer Service team is responsive (even with our 5-6 hour time difference between Louisiana and Hawaii). We have a dedicated "Partner Support" team member over at APS, as well as a "Training Support Partner".

I've been working with APS for almost two years and being my very first experience with a payroll software I found it very easy to learn. The way this software is built and organized makes it very easy to use it. This is particularly true when you are in need to create a report. In this case you can choose one of the several ready-to-use reports from the "Report Manager" option, or you can build your own customized report that best meets your needs. Additionally, to save time and efforts the report you created can be shared among several users in different departments. Another thing I liked about APS is the excellent customer service I received in all of the inquires and issues I encountered during my job.
What I liked least about this software is the fact that when you enter or modify any type of information there is no "safety net", meaning the system does not ask you to confirm your changes before leaving the tab you are in. By adding this extra step you will be "forced" to double check your entries and this can be very helpful in avoiding mistakes especially on sensitive information like bank account numbers, pay rates, or addresses. Another feature that could be implemented is to allow users to download raw data or .csv file directly from the "Analytics" tiles. Right now you can only display, look, and print the information but you cannot download the data in on Excel format. From an Human Resources standpoint it would very helpful to be able to download data such as Employee Turnover, New Hires by department, and Employee Count by month.

Being able to combine payroll AND HR online is amazing. I love the reporting options I have and that I can still run payroll in house but have APS handle the taxes so they are done correctly.
Quickbooks was unable to handle our payroll taxes and also the payroll reporting options were horrible.
I love the reporting options! There are so many great reporting options as well as the option to put together your own! I also like that you don't have to sign up for each module if you don't need it. If you are using the payroll module but don't want/need the HR or attendance module than you don't have to sign up for those. I also like that you have your own (small) dedicated support team instead of just calling in or doing an online chat with a random person. We have only been using APS for a short time but so far I love it much more than our previous providers which included Quickbooks and Sage.
You do several training calls and those can be a bit hard to schedule depending on scheduling conflicts on both sides but that would be expected anywhere..... There really isn't anything I can say I don't really like so far? Maybe the price? It is a tiny bit pricey... Especially for smaller companies.... The only other thing I would like to see would be a quicker processing time for direct deposit. Our previous payroll company was able to process same day which comes in very handy for us (especially during holidays) since we run payroll the following day after the end of our pay period.

I am beyond satisfied with our move to APS. The overall payroll processing system is easier to use than our previous system and has significantly more functionality by enabling employees to enter their hours directly via website or app and then enabling managers to approve automatically. The transition took about two months and throughout the experience, APS made it their priority to communicate clearly and effectively with me. Customer service is clearly a top value, and I am pleased with my assigned team's quick and consistent availability either via email or phone. Our service, functionality, efficiency, comprehension, and overall satisfaction have increased dramatically with APS, while our monthly payments have decreased. That makes us one very happy customer!
We wanted greater product functionality without adding significant cost, and had a desire to be a more valued customer.
I appreciate the ease of use and logical flow of the payroll process. The system is intuitive and not at all intimidating to administrators, managers, or employees using eSelfService.
We have had some trouble with the eSign feature, where hourly employees are required to verify their payroll hour submissions and everyone must verify leave times. This does not always work consistently for us. Thankfully, as the administrator, I am able to override an unsigned time card.

We cut our costs in half and doubled our functionality. The implementation team spent more time on training than all of our previous payroll vendors combined. Answers to questions are a click away from within the system or a quick phone call to a dedicated team member. I highly recommend this product to companies of all sizes or to companies with multiple divisions to manage.
What's not to like? From implementation to use, the team at APS managed our conversion smoothly. Their dedicated tax team is always one step ahead of me and does regular audits to make sure we are compliant in all areas. I work with a specific payroll team so I know when I call or send in a support request through the online system, I will always be talking to the same people who know my account. Everything is contained within one module so you don't have to wonder if the information you enter in one part of the program is going to sync properly with other areas. Real-time updates keep all my reporting accurate.
We have had some occasional minor issues with our field techs being able to enter information to their timecards through the mobile app which is actually just a mobile friendly version of the online system. A true app is being released soon and I expect it will eliminate any small issues we've had in the past.

Even though there are some cons with APS, the customer service truly can't be beat!
APS customer support is absolutely wonderful. We have a team of dedicated support staff who have been with us since before implementation and are always available to answer questions and provide site assistance. We are a growing company with multiple entities, so we are actively working with our APS team to improve functionality of the site to fit our needs best. The site is also very user friendly within companies. I have used other "bigger" payroll systems and this is a much more simplified site.
Some of the features are not yet as developed as some of the other "big name" companies, but their dev team seems to be constantly working to make themselves better for their clients. At this time, APS (Payroll, eSelfServe and Hire sites) does not work well on handheld devices (even tablets), so you almost always have to have a computer available to do the work you need; i.e. if we are out of office and a team member needs something, we can't use our smart phones to find that answer, we have to wait to get back to our computers. The system seems to work better in browsers such as Google Chrome vs. Safari, and can be very slow at times.
